Warners End is the north-west neighbourhood of Hemel, HP1, on the high ground above Gadebridge Park, and it shares a council ward with Chaulden. It is mostly family houses with off-street parking, which makes it one of the easier parts of town to work in. Prices are the town prices: £23 an hour for a weekly cleaner, £36 for a bedroom carpet and £110 for a double oven.
Clay from the park
Gadebridge Park is on the doorstep, with the Gade running along the bottom, and from October the ground down there stays wet for months. Clay and leaf mould come back up the hill on boots and paws. They get ground into the hall, the stairs and the walkway in front of the sofa, and dry to a grit that sits at the base of the pile beyond a household vacuum. Hot water extraction lifts it. Halls and stairs are booked far more than bedrooms up here, which is the sensible order.
Wool carpets in bigger rooms
Bigger rooms tend to mean wool or wool-blend carpet. The water runs off the chalk at about 283 mg/l, and detergent will not rinse cleanly out of wool in water that hard. So the final pass is an acid rinse to bring the pH down. Without it the pile dries stiff.
A regular round
Warners End is mostly standing work. A weekly cleaner is £23 an hour and a fortnightly one £24, three hours at a time, so a weekly visit comes to £69. Many customers here are home when we clean, which suits anyone who would rather keep hold of their keys, and the rest fit a key safe by the door. With parking off the road on most streets, the whole kit comes in from the van and more gets done in each hour.
Resets before a sale
The other call we get is for a full reset: a house going on the market, one that has stood empty for a few months, or the dust after an extension. That is our team clean, from £186 for two cleaners over three hours with the kit. It is priced by the hour, and we would sooner talk it through on the phone than guess from a form.
Ovens in the family kitchens
With the van on your drive, oven work here is about as quick as it gets, since the racks only travel a few metres to the tank. A double oven is £110. A complete 90cm range cooker costs £143, and a gas hob done at the same visit adds £28.
Chaulden and the neighbours
Chaulden shares the ward, and we treat it as the same round. The Arriva 500 and 501 come out this way from the Marlowes, which helps our regular cleaners who do not drive. Down the hill towards the station you reach Boxmoor, and right across town on the far edge is Grovehill. If a tenancy is ending, our move-out clean starts at £156 for a studio. Everything else is on the main page.
Questions we get asked
Why do hall carpets wear so fast in Warners End?
Gadebridge Park. From October, clay and leaf mould come in on boots and paws, dry into grit and settle deep in the pile along the walkways. A vacuum takes the top layer; hot water extraction takes the rest.
Will you need a key?
Only if you would like us to hold one. Plenty of Warners End customers are home when we clean, and others leave a key with us or fit a key safe.
What does a double oven cost?
£110. A single is £77 and a complete 90cm range cooker £143. Racks and pan supports soak in the tank on the van while the inside is cleaned by hand in your kitchen.
What does a deep clean cost here?
From £186: two cleaners for three hours at £26 an hour each, plus £30 of kit. Two cleaners for four hours is £238.
