Bennetts End is the HP3 neighbourhood on the southern slope above the Bulbourne valley, with Leverstock Green along its eastern side. The housing is post-war, built on the same neighbourhood plan as the rest of the new town. Our prices are the town’s: £36 for a bedroom carpet, £41 for a flight of stairs, and £23 an hour for a cleaner who comes every week.
Steps up to the front door
Half the addresses here have steps in the front path and a parking space some way below the door. It sounds minor. It is why a carpet job on this side of town is booked with a little extra time, since a heavy extractor hauled up four steps with a wet hose behind it moves slower than one wheeled across a level drive. There is nothing for you to do about it, and now you know why we ask about access.
Long-term homes and regular cleaners
Most houses here are lived in for years, so the bulk of our Bennetts End work is the weekly or fortnightly visit, at £23 or £24 an hour per cleaner. Visits are three hours or longer. Three hours a week comes to £69, with the same cleaner each time. The maisonette blocks at the edge of the neighbourhood go up three or four floors with no lift, and there we bring the light kit.
Shifts at Maylands
Plenty of people here work at the Maylands business park along the A414, a few minutes away past Leverstock Green. Its shift patterns push a fair number of our bookings outside nine to five. Evenings and weekends cost the same as a Tuesday morning.
Leverstock Green next door
Leverstock Green was a village in its own right until the town grew out and took it in on the south-east side, and it sits right beside the Maylands employment area. Halls and stairs wear first
Especially where there is a dog and a back garden that turns to mud by November. Carpet work goes by the room, and the usual booking here is the hall, stairs and landing together: £22, £41 and £9, so £72, which clears the £67 one-off minimum. A dark traffic lane is grit sitting deep in the pile. A vacuum stops making a difference at that point, and hot water extraction still does.
When a tenancy ends
Our move-out clean goes by bedroom count. Two bedrooms cost £243, three £339, and doing the oven as well adds £31 where the agent asks for it.
