Carpet cleaning in Hemel Hempstead

Carpet cleaning in Hemel Hempstead

Carpet cleaning in Hemel Hempstead is £36 for a bedroom and £43 for a living room, done by hot water extraction. The wand pushes hot solution down into the pile and sucks it straight back up, dirt and all, in one pass. The carpet is left damp. It is never soaked.

Room prices

Area Price
Bedroom £36
Living room £43
Through lounge £61
Stairs, one flight £41
Hallway £22
Landing £9
Rug up to 3 sq m £35
Rug over 3 sq m £51

One-off jobs have a £67 floor. A single bedroom carpet on its own is charged at £67, so most people add the stairs and landing while we are there, which makes £86 of work in all. Carpets booked alongside a move-out clean are cheaper per room: £29 a bedroom, £36 a lounge and £35 a flight. Give us the room list and we add it up before anyone drives over.

Chalk water and the last rinse

Hemel’s supply comes off the chalk at roughly 283 mg/l as calcium carbonate. Detergent does not rinse cleanly in water that hard. On wool and wool blends, leftover residue dries the pile stiff and a little chalky, so the final pass goes through with an acid rinse that brings the pH back down. Skip it and a carpet that looks clean still feels wrong underfoot a week later.

Sisal and seagrass are a different story. Natural matting and hard water leave tide marks, and most of the matting we are shown in town already has them. We will usually suggest a dry method.

Old Town floorboards

The Old Town High Street is Georgian, with a few Tudor buildings, and it predates the new town by centuries. In the houses up there the fitted carpet often lies straight on original boards with no proper underlay. Too much water on those makes the boards cup and opens the joints. Before anything is plugged in we lift a corner by the door, look at what is underneath, and choose a lower-moisture pass where the boards are bare.

Stairs take the time

A flight costs £41 because each tread and riser is its own small job, worked with the wand at an awkward angle. Winders at a turn slow it again. The new town terraces mostly have one straight, narrow flight, which is kind to us, while the Old Town houses have steep boxed-in stairs that often sit over old boards and get checked first. A landing is priced separately at £9.

Long hose runs on the estates

Access sets the length of a carpet job as much as the number of rooms. The maisonettes in Adeyfield and Highfield go up three or four floors on concrete stairs, and we decide on the call whether the machine climbs or the hose is fed up the stairwell. On the Radburn layout at Grovehill the parking courts sit behind the houses, away from the front doors, so up to fifty metres of hose has to go round. We carry the lengths. It simply means the slot is booked longer.

After the machine is off

You can walk on it in socks after about two hours. Full drying takes most of a day, longer in wet weather with the windows closed. We move sofas, chairs and beds and set them on foam blocks until the pile is dry. Wardrobes with clothes in, bookcases and full chests of drawers stay where they are, so clear anything you want cleaned underneath.

Old marks get a test first

Every stain gets a spot test and a proper go with the right chemical, whether it is red wine, coffee or a pet accident. You will know before we pack up which ones have lifted.

Rugs, halls and landings

Rugs are priced by size. Anything up to 3 square metres is £35 and a bigger one £51. The hall takes the worst of the traffic from the front door, so a hallway at £22 is one of our most common small add-ons. The landing at the top of the stairs is a line of its own too. Put the three together with a flight and the whole route from the door to the bedrooms is done in one go.

A lot of carpet work here is added to something else. People booking a one-off deep clean leave the floors until the end, once the rooms above them are done. Prices are identical across HP1 to HP3, Bennetts End included, and you can find our other services on the Hemel Hempstead home page.

Questions we get asked

How much does carpet cleaning cost in Hemel Hempstead?

Bedrooms are £36 each and a living room £43. A through lounge costs £61, one flight of stairs £41 and a landing £9. The smallest one-off booking is £67. Two bedrooms, a through lounge and one flight come to £174.

When can we walk on the carpet?

In socks after about two hours. Drying right through takes most of a day, and longer in a maisonette with small windows and the heating off, so open a window if the weather allows.

Does hard water make a difference to carpets?

It does on wool. Water at about 283 mg/l leaves detergent behind in the fibre, and the pile goes stiff and slightly chalky as it dries. An acid last rinse on wool and wool blends keeps them soft.

Is it safe on a carpet laid over old boards?

Usually, once we have looked. Near the Old Town High Street many carpets sit on original boards with no underlay, and too much water makes them cup. We lift a corner at the door and pick the method from what we find.

Will you move the furniture?

Beds, sofas and chairs, yes, and they go back on foam pads while the pile dries. Full wardrobes, bookcases and chests of drawers stay put, so empty those first if you want the carpet under them done.
